On Representation Theorems for Nonmonotonic Consequence Relations

چکیده
One of the main tools in the study of nonmonotonic consequence relations is the representation of such relations in terms of preferential models. In this paper we give an unified and simpler framework to obtain such representation theorems.

A Semantic Approach to Nonmonotonic Reasoning: Inference Operations and Choice
This paper presents a uniform semantic treatment of nonmonotonic inference operations that allow for inferences from infinite sets of premisses. The semantics is formulated in terms of selection functions and is a generalization of the preferential semantics of Shoham (1987), (1988), Kraus, Lehman, and Magidor (1990) and Makinson (1989), (1993). A selection function picks out from a given set o...
متن کاملNonmonotonic Reasoning, Preferential Models and Cumulative Logics
Many systems that exhibit nonmonotonic behavior have been described and studied already in the literature. The general notion of nonmonotonic reasoning, though, has almost always been described only negatively, by the property it does not enjoy, i.e. monotonicity. We study here general patterns of nonmonotonic reasoning and try to isolate properties that could help us map the field of nonmonoto...
متن کاملA Discrete Duality Between Nonmonotonic Consequence Relations and Convex Geometries
In this paper we present a duality between nonmonotonic consequence relations and well-founded convex geometries. On one side of the duality we consider nonmonotonic consequence relations satisfying the axioms of an infinitary variant of System P, which is one of the most studied axiomatic systems for nonmonotonic reasoning, conditional logic and belief revision. On the other side of the dualit...
متن کاملAxiomatic Aspects of Default Inference
Properties of classical (logical) entailment relation (denoted as ⊢) have been well studied and well-understood, either with or without the presence of logical connectives. There is, however, less uniform agreement on laws for the nonmonotonic consequence relation. This paper studies axioms for nonmonotonic consequences from a semantics-based point of view, focusing on a class of mathematical s...
